I am fascinated by the creative potential of “musical theology,” a pre-Enlightenment relic from the tradition in which J.S. Bach thrived. For Bach and his cronies, music theory was a direct extension and reflection of metaphysical and religious truths. The major chord, three notes in one sound, was the trinity; equal temperament (a practical approximation that detunes each note slightly from the mathematical ratios of just intonation) represented the sinning imperfections of humankind, a musical Fall from God-made purity.
I think “Musica Ricercata” represents a little compendium in advanced composition. The absence, or the reduction to a minimum, of three of the main and most recognizable parameters in music (harmony, melody, timbre) clearly shows how it is possible to use the other parameters (dynamics, tempo, register, articulation, and rhythm) to create a sense of directionality, growth, and change to the music.
At this point, your vocal should be sounding pretty good. There should be no noticeable frequency problems, leaving you with a very natural-sounding performance. Next, you’ll want to focus on adding color and character to your vocal using additive EQ.
Personal government grants
There’s something else important to realize about this: You don’t necessarily need an expensive coach or trainer to give you feedback. Often you provide yourself with the most important feedback. Growing up in Ibiza, I was fortunate enough to learn from the best. I would sneak into clubs at a very early age and spend the whole day (and sometimes night) next to the DJ booth, absorbing everything. I’d remember every track the DJ would play, the order they would play it in, when they would mix it, and then observe the crowd’s reaction. I did this for years and then started experimenting myself. Any DJ that tells you they always play an amazing set… is lying. As a DJ, you make plenty of terrible music decisions, but it’s exactly that which gives you the skills to be better, more confident, and, ultimately, a great selector.

Grants for orff instruments
So I wanted to pluck out a bunch of very famous songs from between the ’60s and ’80s where these stalwart rhythm-section warriors were able to eek out a few moments of their own in the limelight — those fleeting moments where any listener can catch the bass filling an iota of space very cleverly, or otherwise blending particularly well with the vocal, lead guitar, or other instrument. We’ll also examine the melodic techniques used in each case.
We see this all the time in genres like heavy metal for instance, which is often characterized by lots of jagged edges, sharp corners, and bold, aggressive lettering to reflect that shock element, and the loud, distorted, screeching aspects of the music. In the punk tradition as well, there’s a long history of using found lettering such as newspaper headings, stencil style design, and typewriter font, to convey the DIY ethos of the music; rough, fast, borrowed, or stolen. This has been the case since The Sex Pistols and Rancid and continues through to this day.
